MSSRF's GGA (Grameen Gyan Abhiyan) Rural Knowledge Movement Seventh Convention : MSSRF organized the 7th Convention of GGA (Grameen Gyan Abhiyan) – Rural Knowledge Movement (Mission 2007: Every Village a Knowledge Centre). The theme was: Information Communication Technology and Food, Health and Livelihood Security in an Era of Climate Change and it was held from 27th to 28th November 2010. The purpose of the convention was to discuss and decide the best ways of addressing the UN Millennium Development Goals in the collaboration mode in 127 agro-climatic sub-zones, identified by the Indian Council of Agricultural Research based on cropping systems and weather patterns of the country. During 2003-2007, the GGA network mainly focused on policy recommendations related to initiatives of knowledge connectivity. Now the players are looking for effectively using the ICT-tools in different thematic areas such as agriculture, animal husbandry, health, fisheries, education, micro-enterprises, etc. instead of focusing more on only ICT-based jobs. Apart from this, many rural ICT-centre operators (Village Resource Centres, Village Knowledge Centres, Community Service Centres, Information Kiosks, etc.) have expressed for the training needs in the area of technical skills (hardware and software for first level troubleshooting, innovation, newer technology and connectivity, etc.), soft skills (eg. communication, negotiation and leadership for networking, community mobilization, conflict resolution and problem solving, decision making, etc.), business skills (eg. Product and services identification, business continuity, price sensitivity analysis, etc.), functional skills (eg. human resources, marketing, basic accounting, project management, financial and human resource training and content management, etc.) and fundamental skills (eg. knowledge and awareness of development issues, sensitivity to gender, caste and community issues). The convention also would like to know about the various new initiatives in the area of mobile applications, showcasing various rural applications, various state governments’ initiatives in the area of ICT policy particularly to address the rural developmental issues, open discussion in the area of content and capacity building needs for various ICT-centres. Solar Eclipse @ Mumbai, India 15 Jan 2010 : Annular Solar Eclipse took place on January 15, 2010 in India. Solar Eclipse Time on January 15, 2010 India time is from 11:25 AM to 3:15 PM (Indian Standard Time). This Solar eclipse is also visible in Singapore, Dubai, Qatar, Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Malaysia, Africa, Europe, and parts of China. In India, the path of eclipse is through Palk Strait - Between South Kerala and South Tamil Nadu and North Sri Lanka. Maximum eclipse will be visible in Trivandrum and other regions in south Kerala and in Tirunellveli, Madurai, Thanjavur, Kannyakumari, Rameshwaram, Dhanushkodi and Kumbakonam in Tamil Nadu. The Annular eclipse will be visible for nearly 7 to 8 minutes. There won’t be an annular solar eclipse longer than this one till 3043. The last annular solar eclipse visible from India was in 1976. As per traditional Hindu Astrology, the solar eclipse time on January 15 is as follows: (Indian Standard Time): * Partial Solar Eclipse begins - Sparsh kaal is 11:17 AM * Middle period – Madhya kaal is 1:18 PM * The eclipse ends – Moksh kaal is 3:04 PM * Parv or Punya Kaal is 3:47 PM For Mumbai the time given was – 11:17 AM to 3:04 PM. The path of the Moon's antumbral shadow begins in Africa and passes through Chad, Central African Republic, Democratic Republic of the Congo, Uganda, Kenya, and Somalia. After leaving Africa, the path crosses the Indian Ocean where the maximum duration of annularity reaches 11 min 08 s. The central path then continues into Asia through Bangladesh, India, Burma (Myanmar), and China. A partial eclipse is seen within the much broader path of the Moon's penumbral shadow, which includes eastern Europe, most of Africa, Asia, and Indonesia.

Two books published by M S Swaminathan Research Foundation (MSSRF) authored by Arundhathi, Suchit, and Prof. Arunachalam were released by Dr. Bruce M. Alberts, Editor-in-Chief of Science (AAAS) (and former Distinguished President of the National Academy of Sciences) and Prof. M. S. Swaminathan (Chairman MSSRF & Member of Rajya Sabha). They released the two books "Reaching the Unreached" and "Transformative Impact of ICT" at the 6th Convocation of Jamsetji Tata National Virtual Academy (NVA) Fellows, at CLRI, Chennai, TN. IDRC's PAN ALL 2009 Conference, Penang, Malaysia Jun 2009 : IDRC organized PAN “All Partners Conference” is a key dialogue with PAN partners for feedback and formative evaluation at the mid-point of the IDRC's PAN Programme programming life-cycle. The last PAN-all partners meeting was held in Vientiane (2003). From it, IDRC was able to take stock of lessons that had been learned from its projects, as well as identify new research priorities. The same is expected of the PAN-all partners meeting in June 12-14 2009, Penang, Malaysia. The principal objectives of the 2009 PAN All Partners Conference are to bring PAN partners together at the mid-point of its Prospectus in order to learn, share, and identify future research priorities for PAN and the region.
