Built by the warrior-astronomer Raja Sawai Jai Singh II in 1727, it is full of formidable forts, enchanting palaces and lovely temples. Jaipur is listed in most tourist books as one of the three cities that make India's Golden Triangle - the other two are Delhi and Agra. The old city of Jaipur is enclosed within seven gates, the most important of which are Chandpol, Jaipuri and Sanganeri. Best time to visit is Oct to March as summers can be as hot as 45 C!

Kanak Vrindavan Garden also known as Kanak Ghati is a picturesque garden laid down in the Mughal style with lots of fountains and ponds. It has a complex of fine temples and gardens inside the colonnaded pavilion (1707) that has been restored recently by the Birlas. Kanak Vrindavan is an attractive spot both for tourists as well as locals who come for their share of outing on a picnic day.
