Indian Institute of Advanced Study is housed at the former Viceregal Lodge, built in 1884-88. Also known as Rashtrapati Niwas. It houses some of the most ancient articles and photographs going back to the times of the British rule in India. The Viceregal Lodge was built in the Jacobethan style during the regime of Lord Dufferin. Shimla is the capital city of the Indian state of Himachal Pradesh, located in northern India at an elevation of 7,200 ft.
