This image has been shot enroute the Nahargarh Fort which was built in 1799 and from which one gets a nice view of the Palace, Lake and surrounding areas. The palace itself is now abandoned, but reasonably well preserved.

Mar means 'hit' and Galla means 'neck'. It is believed that there were lots of bandits and robbers who used these hills as a sanctuary and would strangulate the travelers in order to rob them. Mar means 'snake' in Persian and galla means 'herd', therefore Margalla means a place with a lot of snakes.
