Shri Mangal Moorati Moorya (Ganesh Idol), Talegaon, 17th Jan'09
Swami Tejomayanandaji, Global Chief of Chinmay Mission was the chief guest of the function inaugurating the Ganesh Idol at Talegaon on 17th January 2009. The installing of Shri Mangal Moorati Moorya (Ganesh Idol) has been a dream project of Basant Kumar Birla and Sarala Birla. The beautifully sculpted idol of Ganesha, stands towering on a hillock astride the Pune-Mumbai express and NH-4. Conceived in 2006 as a tribute to the people of Maharashtra who cherish the lord so dearly, the image can be viewed from miles as it seems to shower kind blessings on all those who pass by.
The statue measures 54 ft in height, squatting on a 18 ft high platform, rising in all its graciousness to an imposing height of 72 ft. About 180 steps from the base of the hillock lead to the statue. All these figures within themselves add to the auspicious figure of 9 (7+2 = 9, 1+8=9, 5+4=9 and 1+8+0=9). The project was designed by the famous sculptor Sri Matu Ram Verma and his son, Naresh Kumar Verma of Pilani, Rajasthan. It took almost three years of relentless hard work by two dozen skilled craftsmen of Rajasthan and numerous labourers under the supervision of Naresh Kumar. The idol is made of reinforced concrete, smoothened beautifully and covered with a copper coating
BK Birla, his wife Sarala Birla, Rajshree Birla and Chairman of the Aditya Birla group, Kumar Mangalam Birla, and other family members performed the puja.
